Press Reviews
CREATIVE LOAFING - Atlanta, GABoth articles written by Roni Sarig /Music EditorMusic Menu for April 3, 1999CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY -- This is a release party for local trio Captains of Industry's recent CD, Debunk theRhetoric. You gotta love the proletarian imagery, both in the CD's art and the band's ironic name, even if theredoesn't seem to be a single bit of leftist propaganda to be heard in Capt's music. Still, it indicates a lightheartedintelligence and flair for style that's further proven by Debunk's songs, which are at times both playful andcomplex, and slip right back into a melodic pop groove whenever the group threatens to wank-out on itsinstrumental skills. Live, they're good enough to transform an awkward novelty song (albeit catchy) -- aboutJacquie Joyner Kersee of all things -- into the damned rock anthem that climaxes their set. No doubt they'reanxious to try out some of the new material they been recording. Though not an official Atlantis showcase, this isone show the A&R folks might think about going out of their way to see. Smith's Olde Bar (Sarig) © 1996-99Eason Publications. All rights reserved |
