Artist History Welcome to the Charming Cobras artist page. Charming Cobras is a collaboration between Jerry Twyford (bass) and myself, Jimmy Pitts (keyboard/ piano). Our intentions with the music contained herein is to provide a glimpse into a vast array of styles and inspirations from around the world. There are to be three cds available for purchase through mp3.com. And we appreciate any support and interest. Following is a basic rundown of each cd's contents. "The Deep" is primarily a solo cd for bassist Jerry Twyford, with one song - 'Bach's Beard' featuring my keyboard playing. This is the only music on the page that wasn't entirely improvised, and is very melodic, modal and contrapuntal in nature. "Charming Cobras I" features music ranging from Indian, Arabic, Atonal, Funk/ Jazz Fusion, Latin and Asian styles. Every note was 100% improvised to some great percussion grooves by Jerry. Some of these pieces were recorded with up to three improvs apiece and overlaid for an almost incidental fugal texture. "Charming Cobras II" is an entirely different creation. Much more classical and dramatic in nature, it is focused primarily on bass and piano. The subtitle for this cd is 'Spontaneous Compositions for Electric Bass and Piano', and that sums it up pretty well. Some influences that were prominent in the recording of these pieces would be Cecil Taylor, Bill Dixon, Marilyn Crispell, Jason Becker, Traditional Japanese music, and "The Immortality Murder" concept on the Scholomance feature of the same name.
