    Artist History
It all started in a parking lot in Sacramento. That’s where Ryan Stimpson met Jim Neff, and Ventura County’s favorite pop-punk phenomenon, Rain Check, was born. Though opposites in nearly every way, this odd couple quickly realized they were musical soul mates. Between Ryan’s virtuosic guitar playing and Jim’s talent for singing and songwriting, the duo knew they made a good team. They formed a band and started playing parties in the Sacramento area. Within two months, they had released their self-produced demo, “Student Drivers,” which featured a primitive version of the still-popular song, “October.” Despite the cosmopolitan nature of Sacramento and the thrill-a-minute music scene of Davis, Ryan and Jim took their show on the road in 2001 and moved to Ventura County, where Ryan grew up. They shared an apartment—not such a great idea—and played local coffee shops—a much better idea—as Twenty for Tuesday. Meanwhile, they searched for the perfect band mates. They went through a rotating line-up of drummers and bassists, including members of 8Stops7, From Satellite, No Motive, the Whereabouts, Force 4-D and Headroom. Despite the band member musical chairs, Rain Check drew over 200 people to their first live Ventura show. They began to amass serious support from local fans, clubs and Blackbird Music. Since that first live show, the band has played clubs like Nicholby’s, Bombay’s, the Livery, The Coach House in Santa Barbara and the Key Club in Los Angeles. They opened for a number of popular bands, including Krave and The Start, before starting to headline their own shows. Then the band’s line-up also started to settle. One bassist left to pursue another project. Jim brought in Dan Flores, who he’d met in the bathroom at a Rain Check/Force 4-D show while Jim was trying to get his mohawk to stand up. Dan helped, and they became instant friends. Ryan and Jim found there perfect other halves, and the band continues to grow in energy, stagemanship, and popularity. They’ve appeared live on the local radio show, Rock Revolution, and have released a self-produced single, “Same Mistakes,” which is on frequent rotation at local radio stations As for Ryan and Jim, they are excited to watch child they have reared — this band —continue to grow up. They’ve gone from house parties to packed clubs, from coffee shop duets to multi-act festivals. And they love every minute of it. “There’s nothing in the world I’d rather do,” says Ryan.
