Artist History
The modern rock band Mason Black came together when Dave Dennis (guitarist) called J.P. Tadpole (bass) and invited him to tryout for a project Dennis had been struggling to put together. After a year of not being in contact, the two elementary school teachers decided that they had something.
Tadpole enthusiastically invited Dan Ferguson (drums) to sit in—the two had played blues and jazz together for several years prior. Danny Drowns had been playing modern rock with Dennis for several years.
The average age of the members is 29 and each member has played in several bands around the Kansas City area. The Mason Black members felt that with this kind of variety of experiences, they could put together an interesting project. The band officially first practiced and formed January of 2002.
All members of Mason Black contribute to the writing of the songs, thus a variety of styles have naturally come out. The sound most accurately can be described as modern rock with some tastes of pop, punk, and jazz. They pride themselves on writing music that can be accessible to a wide variety of people.
Since their formation, Mason Black has diligently been writing songs and performing at local clubs around Kansas City. They just recently (February 2003) have begun to get regular air play on several local radio shows (i.e., KQRC 105.9 The Lazer and kcevolution.org). They have completed a six song demo, three song e.p., and are currently working on their debut CD at Neighborhood Studios in Lawrence, Kansas.
Soon to be released will be their debut album "Halfway to the Moon"! (Summer 2003)
