Artist History
Carlos lords was born in Cali, Colombia on May 22,
1971.The youngest of four brothers and one sister
remembers his love for music came at a very young
age.
At the age of five, his first influences were
Julio Iglesias and Camilo Sesto.
Carlos arrived in the states three months after
his eighth birthday and immediately developed an
interest in piano. He began taking lessons a year
later and after two months was expelled from
class. Carlos knew he needed direction and a
role-model, but his ear for music would not allow
him interest in music theory.
By the age of twelve, Carlos’ three older brothers
started a rock band, which they named The Knights.
Although his brothers’ band was already writing
songs, it was missing a key instrument, drums.
Auditions began in search of a drummer and at
twelve years old, Carlos became more of a pain to
the band members. To ease some of the tension
during auditions and rehearsals, Carlos was asked
to sit outside the studio until auditions were
over with, this went on for over a year.
While the band went on auditioning, hiring and
firing drummers, Carlos sat at the bottom of the
stairs. After going through rejection after
rejection he sat banging on the walls to the beat
of the songs, some times for hours.
After begging and driving his brothers up the wall
Carlos was given a chance, a chance to make a fool
out of himself. To get him off their backs his
brothers substituted two old songs for two new
songs knowing that he had never heard them or sat
behind a drum set before, he was being set up to
fail the audition.
His brothers knew that Carlos could never make the
band, because at fourteen he wouldn’t be allowed
in the clubs. Needless to say, Carlos had other
plans in mind, he knew it was a one way ticket to
play with the three brothers he admired and
respected so much, his only chance was now in his
hands. Then, he was told to sit behind the drum
set and simply do or die. In an attempt to crush
him to the bone his brothers had the studio
engineer record the session to later embarrass him
even more so.
Even to his surprise, after that night Carlos
became a local celebrity. He did as no local
drummer had ever done, amazingly well for a first
timer/keyboard player. Carlos not only shocked
everyone by improvising every stop, hit and roll,
but what was more impressive was that he also sang
along to the lyrics.
Those long nights banging on the walls in
frustration really paid off. He got the gig on the
spot.
Not long after completing the band, The Knights
were forced to change the band’s name to something
more commercialized, it became S'leaze-21. The
club scene did not come easy to the new band of
brothers. However, Carlos was too young to be
allowed in most clubs and had to be replaced for
those shows, no self-respecting musician goes easy
with the idea of being temporarily replaced.
Although S'leaze-21 encountered many obstacles in
their bumpy start, they went on to play some of
the most popular clubs in New Jersey. Their
popularity grew after playing clubs such as;
RealMonte’s in Clifton, the legendary Dirt Club
and the Rat Trap Café in Bloomfield, Escapades and
Charter Box in Bayonne, the very popular Studio-
One in North Newark and of course The Birch Hill/
Sting Ray’s Entertainment Complex in Old Bridge.
Some of the most popular local bands to have
shared the stage with S'leaze-21 were Nancy Regan
MaxiPads, Debris, Black Car, Raze, American Angel
and Trixter. The band eventually disintegrated
due to mutual differences in music styles and each
went their separate way.
In 1988 and at the age of 17, Carlos started
experimenting in the studio and it was then that
he recorded his first single "Why?".
When it came to music it was Carlos and his
brother Sebastian who were closest and in 1991
Carlos joined Sebastian and long time friend Nikki
in a project they called Deflowering Mary. It
seemed for a while they had a good thing going but
it was not long before Carlos’ music career came
to a full stop. In 1995 Carlos learned that his
older brother’s desire for playing live will
force Sebastian to move to Los Angeles. Sebastian
quit the English Rock scene in the East Coast to
join forces with the Spanish Rock in the West
Coast. Carlos was devastated to learn that his
role-model and mentor had left him with only a
path to follow.
In 1996 and with a project on the works, Carlos
decided to continue the project with Nikki and
renamed the project SILICONE only to end up with a
Spanish Pop/Rock CD three years later and here it
is, enjoy.
