Artist description
Zachary Gordin is gaining international acclaim for his artistry. Blending his intense stage personality with a voice noted for its versatility, he is equally at home in the bravura style of the 18th century, as with works of 21st century composers. The countertenor performs a broad repertoire of operatic roles spanning four centuries, including the title roles in Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Serse, and Tancredi, Amore in Orfeo ed Euridice, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Nerone in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ruggeiro in Alcina, Sesto in Giulio Cesare, The Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, and others. Sacred works he has performed include Bach's B-Minor Mass, Mozart's Exsultate, Jubilate! and C-Minor Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Handel's Messiah. A frequent guest artist with San Francisco Opera, Berkeley Opera and Oakland Lyric Opera, he has also sung at Teatro alla Scala, Opera de Monte Carlo and has made numerous concert and recital appearances in the United States and Europe.
Among his many accolades are Winner of the Bellini International Voice Competition, Winner of the Ibla Grand Prize Baroque Music Competition, and recipient of the Irene Patti Swartz Award for the Florida Grand Opera - Young Patronesses of the Opera National Voice Competition. He was also World Finalist for the Academia di Perfezionamento per Cantati Lirici at La Scala, Milan and Pacific Region Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Future engagements include concert and recital appearances in France, Italy and the United States and creating the role of Wilder in Earthrise for San Francisco Opera. A role composed especially for him by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lewis Spratlan. |
