Artist History
Born Mar. 4,1950 Romford Essex, Great Britain
1965-age 15, dropped out of high school and left home to apprentice at the London Stock Exchange
1966-age 16, started playing in jug bands in London
1969-age 19, left the Stock Exchange in 1969 for ideological reasons - long hair, beard and sandals and 12 hour
workdays do not mix well with pin stripped suits and 12 hours of music playing with zero hours sleep.
1971-playing music by night and gardener by Day for Richmond Council.
1973-returned to the London Stock Exchange to try and earn some extra money.
1974-returned to hometown in Southend, played in several local bands: "Highly Strung Vest", "Professor Cure All's
Medicine Show", "Doug Glug and the Bathroom Plug" and "Brewed Together"
1976-took up acting in local theatre productions. Joint-managed the successful folk/blues club "ODYSSEY" in Southend,
hosting musicians such as Alexis Korner and Joe Ann Kelly joining them on washboard.
1976-to aid his attempt to quit smoking he received a ukulele banjo as a Xmas present. "Every time I wanted a cigarette,
I would pick up the Uke and strum...within 2 weeks I could play Aint She Sweet, and after 6 weeks I had 10 songs under
my belt, had quit smoking and drove all my neighbors away!!"
1977-traveled to North America and Euope, busking on the street and at festivals .In
1978-after encountering troubles trying to get through Afghanistan on his way to Australia ,he hitch hiked through Turkey,
Syria and Jordan, and arrived in Israel spending the winter on Kibbutz Shamir. Traveled and played in Europe and
Scandinavia, returning each winter to the Kibbutz.
1981-formed a jug band called "Organic Energy" became a member of the Kibbutz and worked in the apple orchard.
Joined Jerusalem based "Taverners" band, known for their bawdy songs and spontaneous performances in the Country,
Blues, Irish, Folk, Jazz, and Goodtime Band styles, that performed at major Festivals in Israel and made several records
and many TV appearances.
Today, Paul Moore lives in Israel, not far from Tel Aviv with his wife Dafna and two children. Growing vegetables,
chickens, ducks, sculpting with found junk, writing a book on the history of One Man Bands.
In recent years, Paul has performed as a One Man Band and with his group The Amazing Washboard Wizards
Paul is also a Frequent guest with The IsraDixie Band of Avram Felder and Jazz pianist Leonid Ptashka
