Artist History
Paul Sipe began learning music and piano at the age of 7. When he was 9 he discovered The Beatles, picked up his older sister's classical guitar, and started learning guitar chords and scales. Paul played as a hobbyist and continued to study through high school and his undergraduate college years. Later he would play as a stand-in for a wedding band, participate in a classic rock *garage* cover-band project (named 'void *') where he learned MIDI, sequencing, and many David Gilmour solo's note for note.
Prior to this century, Paul's exploration of musical instruments and equipment was always with a focus on supporting live performances. In 2000, Paul played some basement tapes for a friend. This friend gave Paul his old Tascam Porta03 cassette multitracker and said: "Here... maybe you can use this. I can't".
Paul began composing original music in 2001 (and he rapidly graduated to a digital multitracker). Shortly later he set a personal goal to "write 100 songs". At the time of this writing (last updated: April 2003) he has composed 31 original pieces, and has recorded 1 cover.
With wonderful encouragement from those he shared his recordings with (you know who you are Jenine, Rich, Doug, Reap, Chris, Mary Ann) Paul Sipe presents 13 original songs in his first commercial offering on mp3.com: You Are Here Now. Style-wise, these songs are all over the map (this inspired the cover art). About two thirds of the tracks are instrumental and range from dance, pop, techno and trance, to heavy rock, to light jazz.
