Artist description
Jon Harris is a charismatic singer/songwriter hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. His combination of soulful folk and gut-based singing flow into a riveting and emotionally charged performance. One moment he is rocking side to side slashing up and down the guitar neck with his bottleneck slide and the next hushing the audience with a gentle melody. With a quiet and unobtrusive demeanor it is hard to believe the captivating presence he has on stage.
A seasoned veteran, Jon has run the gauntlet musically having played and sang a variety of styles ranging from blues, reggae, funk, alt. country and rock. Harris has recently returned from Chattanooga where he graduated from college. While in Chattanooga he began his serious venture into a professional music career. His biggest accomplishment was fronting Milele Roots, a multinational reggae band. Here Harris came into his own as a performer, writer and professional. Milele opened up for the likes of Burning Spear and the Wailers and recorded an album in the famous Kingston, Jamaica studio, Anchor Studio.
After returning to Atlanta, Harris has had the honor to perform in two of Eddie*s Attic*s "shoot-out" where he has gained much respect "captivating" both fellow participants and judges with his soulful, unique sound. From past "Shoot Outs" musicians such as John Mayer and Shawn Mullins have emerged, making this competition one of America*s most respected and competitive. Jon has also spent some of time working with the Larry Griffith Band. He was featured on the blues outfit*s second independent release holding down the lead guitar and backing vocals. Currently Harris has gathered several musicians he calls the blue ravers and with them he takes the audience on an odyssey of deep grooves, barrel house sensitivity, and a flavorful good time.
He draws his inspiration from fellow songsters Ben Harper, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Neil Young, Dylan, and his idols Son House and Taj Mahal. Yet Harris brings his unique soul and spirit into each performance . His intensely revealing and honest songs of love, spirituality, and social perspective possess a universal quaility that allows the audience to see inside his life and see their own experiences reflected there. "I try to draw the audience into these songs by making the music accessible and still keeping true to what I know... writing about my life." |
