Artist description Assistant are a five piece pop group who formed in Brighton in the spring of 2002 and play offbeat, odd and adventurous pop music. Making music from a variety of different angles, Assistant draw on enough resources and influences to succeed in avoiding the one-song-fits-all approach, and the lack of a definitive article in their name is not the only thing that sets them apart from a string of Strokes-copyist bands. Adopting a minimal, melodic approach combined with obtuse lyrics and sudden moments of discord, Assistant are occasionally reminiscent of Blur, Sonic Youth, Can, Stereolab and Pulp. Using two interweaving guitars, fragmented keyboard lines and hypnotic, unexpected bass underpinned by imaginative drumming, Assistant consist of Pete, Andy, Jonathan, Ali and Anne-Sophie. Assistant will be playing live and recording through 2003.
