Artist description
Back in 2000, (when 'emo' was still a word that could be used to describe a genuine musical genre!), London's Sunfactor, along with contemporaries such as Spy Vs. Spy and Bob Tilton, were part of a select group of bands that were forging a style that set them apart from the legions of bands who were aping the sounds of Fat Wreck or Epitaph.
Sunfactor in particular were adding melody to the mix of heartfelt lyrics and powerful rock and celebrated this fact by release a stunning debut EP - 'RE:Regarding' on the Year 3000 label. This was followed the following year with a split CD with like-minded souls Carver that further enhanced their reputation. After an appearance on one of Deep Elm's 'Emo Diaries' compilation, high profile shows with the likes of Jets To Brazil, Hot Water Music, Piebald, New End Original, Rival Schools and At The Drive In, plus a full European tour with Pop Unknown, Sunfactor looked set to take the next step up...
But instead, for a number of reasons, they took a nine month hiatus that rather unfortunately for them, coincided with the 'emo' explosion which, in this country at least, they'd help pave the way for. In 2002 they reconvened and set about writing a completely new set of songs. 11 of those feature here, on their debut full length 'Original Motion Picture'. Shot through with quality from the anthem-like opener 'Invincible', via the poptastic 'Nine To Five' to the awesome melancholic closing couplet of 'Trading Hairbrushes For Hats" and 'Tonight', Sunfactor have signalled their intention to clearly reclaim their rightful position at the top of the UK post hardcore tree! |
