Artist History
The band was formed in the summer of 1998 by Ádám Kulcsár (guitar) and Gergely Kulcsár (drums) in a little North-Hungarian town, Pásztó. The initial purpose was the creation of a unique pagan black metal that bears effects of the Hungarian atmosphere, but not by using clichés or usual motifs.
Some time later Balázs Szollosi joined the band as a singer, and then in 1999 they found a second guitarist, István Markó. The band started to elaborate the style and some songs were written, but they could not find a bassist in the area so there were no gigs.
In 2000, the majority of the band moved to Budapest. Unfortunately István had to quit since he remained in Pásztó, so the band continued in trio. Being in the heart of the country, they met many musicians and built up long-term relationships. The lacking bassist was soon found when they asked a friend of the band, Richárd Orosz (Screamflood, Masquim Xul, ex-Atropos, ex-Desperation) to join them. He is a guitarist, but was open to try himself as a bassist. This turned to be an excellent move, for a unique style could be elaborated. With this full line-up, serious work could be started, motivating the band.
Since then they were busy working, they participated in some gigs and recently have recorded the first material, an EP which was recorded at Elysion Studio, Békéscsaba. The CD was released in June.

TURULVÉR - Turulvér
(Self-released)
Although the name of Turulvér has been present in the Hungarian underground for a while and the band could be seen on stage several times, we had to wait for the debut recording until now.
After the introduction track '892', the music bursts in with such power that I was really surprised, notwithstanding that I was previously informed by others about the quality of this material. At Elysion Studio in Békéscsaba such a tough and fierce sound has been reached that is rare not only domestically, but would blow a bunch of international records as well. I really cannot remember the time when I last heard a guitar sounding so nice and decent on a Hungarian recording. Of course the good sound not being all, the riffs of Adam Kulcsár also live up to the expectations and draw attention. The same refers to the rhythm section; the bass melodies of Richard Orosz can be easily listened to thanks again to the clear sound, and it is worth since he does not only follow the guitar or raise the noise level. The drummer Gergely Kulcsár also takes his part from making this EP a fine one.
The product of the quartet is not a narrow-minded massacre, although I know that for the source of the extreme vocals, Balázs Szollosi, the fast blast beats are of great importance. Great structure and fast black metal riffs characterize their songs which are presented in a dynamic manner. 'Pro Patria' starts with an impressive drum introduction that creates a war atmosphere and 'A hos éneke' is also outstanding with its opening acoustic theme and fine riffs.
As the name of the band forecasts, the lyrics of Turulvér deal with the Hungarian pagan era, expressed mainly in Hungarian and in two songs in English. The cover artwork made by Szol and Viktor Uhrin is of high level too. Several fine records were born recently in domestic forges that deserve attention and the debut EP of Turulvér is among the best that I can recommend to anyone who like varying black metal that is full of strength.
