Artist History
Marie Louise Niwemukobwa was born in 1967 in the south part of Rwanda.
Since her childhood she has been educated, as all her brothers and sisters, to respect the culture of her country.
“It was very strange, particularly for our neighbours, the way my father made us grow, as if life were a show.
Singing, reciting, dancing, poetry, all this belonged to my daily life. I cannot say how much I was embarrassed when we had to improvise a show because there was a guest to welcome. This was the beginning of my destiny.”
In 1990 Marie Louise moved to Italy to study economic and banking sciences at Udine university. Currently, she lives and works in Venice, she collaborates with Radio Base Popolare Network working on the information about social-cultural life of immigrants, mostly of African origin, to facilitate the cultural exchange.
“Without doubt coming to live in Italy has created me a void because being without my culture it is a torture for me. A void that I compensate with music, dance and poetry, which give me a feeling of liberty, of peace and calm. With my three children, I thank God for giving me this beautiful and amazing experience.”
She has always been interested into culture and the discovery of other people, so she has had the opportunity to better know the world of show business. Her first concerts took place in 1998 thanks to the collaboration with the “Centro Donna” of Venice Municipality, then with the Venice Municipality “Office for Immigrated”.
With the collaboration of several women cultural associations Marie Louise has begun to teach dance. Dance as communication, awareness and preventive therapy.
In August 1999 she acted as dancer, in a theatrical show at the Venice “Biennale” with the company of Pippo Del Bon from Genova. From that event Marie Louise has received the encouragement to continue to express herself as an artist, therefore, she ideated with some friends of the Cultural Association Metis, a theatrical show with the title “Trama d’ali” (Plot of wings) where every foreigner or Italian artist represented herself through her culture.
In 2002 it is released her first record “Iwacu” (alma music / Rasta Snob Records) composed in the more difficult moments of her and of all the Rwandese people life.
The main idea of the CD is the desire for peace and interior and physics calm obtained through love that has to be the flag for the whole humanity.
