Artist History
Combining the energy of garage band alt. rock with the
melodic sensibilities of power pop, Big Kid sets out
to do one thing.... deliver a driving song. Drawing on
the influences of such diverse artists as Jimmy Eat
World, All-American Rejects, Jason Falkner, OK Go and
Jellyfish, the members of "BK" believe there's nothing
more exciting or infectious than a great
tap-your-steering wheel, sing-along melody.
Started in San Diego, California in the fall of 2002,
Big Kid grew out of a number of songwriting sessions
between guitarist Damian and drummer Steve
Clark (who, coincidentally, attended the Berklee
College of Music at the same time in the mid-90's, but
didn't know each other). As their songs began to take
shape and grow, the idea of starting a full-fledged
band came into focus. Adding Steve's brother, Doug, on
bass and working with Los Angeles based vocalist Ken
Stacey, the band took to the studio in April 2003 to
record their debut CD: "You Must Be Kidding".
While in pre-production for the CD, the band
approached David Bash, promoter and manager of the
highly successful, annual International Pop Overthrow
with a few of their early demos. Excited by the music,
David invited Big Kid to perform at the 2003 IPO
showcase in Los Angeles, as well as invited them to be
included on the 2003 International Pop Overthrow
compilation CD (on the Not Lame Recording label).
During this period, Steve, Doug and Damian, also began
talking with singer/guitarist Craig Henry, a friend
and former musical cohort from Los Angeles, about
joining Big Kid. A talented singer and actor, Craig
brought a sense of excitement and energy to Big Kid's
live performances. The band is currently gigging in Los Angeles and San Diego. |

Press Reviews
"This 7 song Mini-CD is one to pay attention to. This San Diego power pop band grabbed our ear immediately and we're watching them closely as they deserve to have this music on a label of some sort. What do we have here that's so special? Well, classic power pop that drives things home in the vein of such of the past as Jellyfish, from a few years ago such as Tsar or Mayflies USA or Superdrag on a powerful pop bender or more recently Phantom Planet. There are hallmarks of anthemic guitar pop: a big ringing guitar sound, some pile-driving choruses, and a special way around a big 'ole hook. This is a great sound to blast out of a car stereo, especially when they get Jellyfish-y on 2 or 3 of the tracks as those bouncy melodies stick to the eardrums. A more-than promising debut and Extremely Highly Recommended."

"Big Kid is a San Diego-based quartet that specializes in classic power pop, and their seven-song debut EP is perfect for the summer. These guitar-driven songs are great for blasting in the car or on the beach, featuring hard-driving choruses and the kind of subtle hooks that make each song seem instantly familiar.
You Must Be Kidding is some serious stuff. While these seven likable songs come to just a little over 23 minutes total, they present a very appetizing sampler from which to attract record label interest. Certainly, Big Kid has talent enough for someone to take a chance on them soon…maybe even you."
