Artist History
Ask Me Later!
Started from my love of music and Larry Schenk from my last band. With the addition of Andy Badger my Bass player Andy Badger and Janeen my Lead Vocalist. I believe this band could go all the way to the top. Being an alternative rock band that plays many original songs we are able to add unique flavor to many cover songs, old and new.
In our short time together we have played several times at the Phoenix Club and the Osprey in Medford with return engagements set. We are also pleased to be scheduled for The annual Rooster Crow and Jackson county fair this year. |

And The Band Played On
By Cindy Blankenship
Three local bands played at the Rooster Crow last weekend. While the audiences were smaller than last year, no doubt due to the stifling heat the musicians still cooked at the event- and seemed to have a good time doing it.
From 3:30 till 6:30 the new rock band on the block Ask Me Later! ignited the air with their original songs and some familiar rock cover songs sprinkled with their very talented and unique flavor.
“We had a great time” said leader and song writer Gary Trumbull “ I just hope next year isn’t so hot. I think this was the hottest gig I ever played.”
“I Feel good about playing here because these are the people I see on the streets,” Trumbull added. “ All my friends live here.”
Trumbull , of Birdseye Creek area, has recorded some of his songs with Dito Godwin, producer who formerly worked with Epic Records and quite a few well knowns.
Godwin who has sold songs to great musicians such as Wynona Judd, may be selling a couple of Trumbullls songs soon, said Trumbull. But while Trumbull admits the band has “aspirations,“ he adds, but this is home.”
We’re hoping for something exciting, but were not about writing stuff just to be commercial. Our music carries messages. The cigarette song isn’t just about a specific habit, it’s about making choices,” said Trumbull. ”Even the blues songs have messages like Random Girl,” Which is about loving that person who comes into your life randomly instead of looking for that beauty queen.
The band’s leader is more than a poet at heart . Trumbull has completed a book of 119 poems that he hopes to publish, and Noble house in London recently accepted one of his poems.
Ask Me Later! Is also working on saving money to record their CD. The likely studio of choice will be a local one--Scott Glen’s on Wards Creek.
The band came together about 6 months ago. Trumbull met bass player Andy Badger through a colleague, and Keyboard player Dennis Johnson answered his ad. Joel Pershing is filling in as drummer. Trumbull said the band had the good fortune to find it’s singer, Janeen Saunders, after running an advertisement.
“ She just blew everybody out of the water” said Trumbull of the audition.
Before Ask Me Later! The R haus waitress sang country, opened at the Rogue Theatre and once declined an invitation to open for Lyle Lovett because she didn’t have a band.
Saunders demonstrated a voice at Rooster Crow that hit’s the high notes with clarity , strength and sweetness, and then in the same song can belt out a low bluesy growl.
But what’s with the name Ask Me Later!?
Trumbull came up with it one day when he and a buddy were joking around.
“He asked me the bands name, and I said, Ask Me Later!. Now it’s a standing joke. People ask what our name is, and one of us will say, Ask Me Later! And they are like oh, ok, we’ll say, no, that’s the name of the band.
Trumbull started playing the drums when he was nine years old, but he didn’t pick up the guitar until he was twenty- eight.
“Anybody can learn to play music,” said Trumbull.” It’s difficult at first, but once you get beyond that, it’s so relaxing. Music is in everyone look how people hum around the house. It just needs top be brought out.
Speaking from a professional entertainers point of view, Trumbull said ”some people are in it for the wrong reasons booze, drugs, and chicks. It will only be good if everyone in the band is into the music. None of us smoke or drink. I’d be playing if only one person was in the audience. I just love the music that much.
And at their concert Saturday, it appeared all were thoroughly enjoying their music.
The band played at the relay for life benefit in Grants Pass, plays regularly at Time Out and the Osprey in Medford, will perform at the Jackson county fair in the dinner court on Saturday, July 19th.
