Artist description John Robertson's musical curiosity began at an early age. With a piano in the house, he quickly began to write abstract music not knowing the difference between the black and the white keys usually imitating thunder and lighting or gobbledygook. Learned the guitar, played in bands, ditched that scene (rock band scene), and obtained (a) degree in music composition (twas time for tea), wrote pieces for string quarttttet, orchestra, symphonic band and the obligatory yelping pickles...afterwards, he threw away his pen and picked up the guitar again. Now he rarely writes a song that lasts longer than two minutes. Eight track vs. pencil/paper...get it? Chop it up. Swaggle{ John is currently performing as a solo acoustic/vocal act sometimes adding a second output from the guitar which is distorted. He attempts to bring the audience out of its shell if need be. When this occurs, they tend to jump on the stage and dance wildly even if their clothes are still on. John has an extreme obsession with spicy foods particularly cherry peppers. Swept To See's first album Joy Pollution is the thought of an idea of a collaboration between john and a few friends. John, who has come to realize he has few friends, is the principle performer playing all instruments from guitar to a deck of cards to whatever else he can get his dirty little hamburger paws on granted the sound will fit the musical mold. While much of the cd is calmly and acoustically folk rock driven, two drummers (Adam and Vartan) appear on 5 songs to help add a raucous flavor. Robertson's most yet least positive major recent influenceees include (in alphabetical order) Azure Ray, Bardo Pond, Syd Barrett, Beat Happening, Beck, Frank Black, Nick Drake, the frogs, Kristin Hersh, Mississippi John Hurt, Mazzy Star, Mogwai, Neutral Milk Hotel, Robert Pollard, Sebadoh, Elliot Smith, Kendra Smith, Sonic Youth, Sparklehorse, Tom Waits, Yo La Tengo and various others included in the genres of brit pop, noise rock, lo-fi, folk, and blues.
