    Artist History
Biography After forming in 2001, Adelaide's I Killed the Prom Queen have rapidly gained a reputation for being one of the most intense bands in Australian hardcore. The onstage onslaught that has earned them this status has seen them secure a list of supports harder to forget than their name, including bands from the US, Japan, New Zealand and Australia's metal and hardcore heavy-weights. Already inciting a stir through frequent touring, I Killed the Prom Queen wasted no time in releasing their debut EP "Choose to Love, Live or Die" on hardcore/punk label, 618 Recordings. Fusing elements of rock, metal and hardcore, they knock you to the floor with a 4-track-musical-offensive. Before you know it, they're picking you up again with emotive, vocal and guitar-driven melody, just to knock you right back down. Since the release of the EP, each show has somehow managed to top the previous one, reaping the rewards of a well-received CD. With a recently consolidated line up, I Killed the Prom Queen are focused on the future, collating new material for their return to the studio in early 2003. If their achievements so far are anything to go on, it promises to be one to watch out for.

"DREAMS KILL THE IMAGE OF THE INNOCENT THAT DIES, THAT A HEART THAT BEATS PURE IS BLACKED WITHIN HER EYES!" These are not your average lyrics to an average love song. These opening lyrics of I Killed the Prom Queen's first release show the emotion that these six (Two guitarists/vocalists, two vocalists, bassist and drummer) young Australians have. This album is not for those who consider your basic power pop 'brilliant'; it combines brutal, often chaotic hardcore with well-timed spoken interludes and sometimes clean melodic vocals which sets an emotional and musical atmosphere that is so intense and complex it blows you away. IKTPQ's musical sound is so tight and fluid it's unreal. The intricate guitar work, the passionate screams and devastatingly skillful drumming all merge into one awe-inspiring wall of sound that is so involving and so emotional you can't help but be overwhelmed every time you press play. The only flaws I can find with this release is that it only has four songs and you get very confused when trying to sing along, not to mention a sore throat. The way the vocalists go off each other is incredible. At some parts, a constant barricade of words into rough harmonic screams and others a melodic clean voice with screams in the background. I found the last song, "Upon A River's Sky" to be a stand out track. But that doesn't take anything away from the other tracks though, every song on this EP is exceptionally good. "Upon A River's Sky" is along similar lines to Poison the Well's "Pieces of You In Me", but they do it so much better and remove the "pop punkish" feel to it. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of emotional hardcore and power violence. In fact, I'd tie anyone I see down and make them listen to it; go and check it out. Wix
