    Artist description
Jasmine Whenham lived in 9 different locations across Canada for the first 22 years of her life before taking up residence for the past three years in Calgary (AB). In short, Jasmine is from Canada. Growing up the child of two classically trained musicians, Jasmine became a musician herself at an early age, performing at regional music festivals from the age of four onward. Throughout the years, she has studied piano, violin, french horn, and clarinet. In 1991, Jasmine was chosen to represent her region in the British Columbia Provincial Music Festival with her clarinet. The following year, she was asked to return, this time to showcase her voice. At the age of sixteen, Jasmine left Alberta and the comforts of home to further her career in theatre as a designer and technician. It was then that she bought a guitar, to compose and sing with an instrument slightly more portable than a piano. This instrument turned out to be her first true love and she still does 90% of her songwriting for guitar. In the early months of 2001, Jasmine left her career in the theatre industry to pursue her songwriting in more depth. Gradually, she has carved out a niche for herself in Calgary's flourishing music industry. In the fall of 2001, Jasmine's younger brother, Will came to live with her in Calgary and the popular Calgary folk duo, Sibling Rivalry was formed. Sibling Rivalry quickly became known for their "jamming" style and people came out to see the spontaneous and surprising morphing of several songs into one long jam session. Sibling Rivalry is currently on hiatus due to Will's relocation to northern Alberta, where he works in music sales, studio recording and engineering. During the summer of 2002, Jasmine recorded her first solo EP- 8640 Days (with Will's magic fingers playing guitar on a few tracks) at Dave Lang's Bar and Grill in Regina, SK. Since that time, she has been writing music like mad and plans to release her second EP late in 2003. As well as keeping herself busy with recording and performing, Jasmine works full time at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts. This position gives her multitudinous opportunities to connect with members of Calgary's Arts Community as well as fodder for her songwriting. Jasmine writes and sings music from the heart, about matters of the heart. From ballads about lost love to political songs about the world's homeless and the war in Iraq, she endeavors to provoke thought as well as entertain.

    Press Reviews
"Jasmine sheds honesty and reality with her soul filled words. With her powerful voice and haunting guitar styling there is never a head unturned; she fills the room with love." Michelle Boudreau, Café Ultimate Booking / Promotions, Regina, Saskatchewan "I had a great time recording Jasmine Whenham at Dave's Bar and Grill. She's got a great voice and was a pleasure to work with. She returned the favour by appearing live with me on Regina's community radio station, 91.3 CJTR. Everyone listening agreed that it was a blast!" Dave Lang, Radio Host, Singer / songwriter / engineer / owner Dave's Bar and Grill Studios "The first image is of a woman with a capital S swagger. A woman I met in front of playground equipment. She was a woman without a guitar and a woman who spoke in an intelligent manner about everyday things. I only found out she played guitar months later at a dinner table surrounded by food, friends, and booze. A guitar was being passed around and Jasmine promptly took control of it. Like spin the bottle, when that guitar pointed to her and was in her hands boy, if her music wasn't the sweetest kiss one could ever wish for. Just like the even handed rhythm of her speech - her voice was immediately trustworthy and touching in it's honesty...and it is there in that honesty that the heart of Jasmine was first exposed to me..." Josh Straight, Singer / songwriter extraordinaire
