    Artist History
Troy David brought something into the recording studio this year that few artists are lucky enough to start with: the support of two industry star-makers who liked his style. A New Jersey vocalist with a vein of pure soul, David has built a following on his live performances in clubs, theaters and outdoor arenas over the past two years. Last year a nightclub performance in Orlando, Florida, brought him to the attention of producer-songwriter Rick Chudacoff. Chudacoff knows soul, and Chudacoff knows a hit. His list of projects reads like an adult-contemporary Top 100 chart: Peabo Bryson, Michael Bolton, DeBarge, Kenny G., Patti LaBelle, New Edition, The Pointer Sisters, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis and others. To further the mix Chudacoff invited hit-writer Randy Goodrum to work on David's CD. Goodrum has given the industry such standards as "Foolish Heart" (Steve Perry), "Bluer Than Blue" (Michael Johnson), "You Needed Me" (Anne Murray),"Oh Sherrie" (Steve Perry), "I'll Be Over You" (Toto), and "Who's Holding Donna Now?" (DeBarge). Together with Chudacoff and Goodrum, David created two new songs for the debut CD: the emotional "Love's Not Listening," and the uplifting and tender "Reaching My Goal." Chudacoff and David worked together to write the raw "Down." "Every song comes from somewhere in my life," David says. "A relationship, a feeling, or maybe my attitude about life." David also recorded Goodrum's hit "You Needed Me." "I've loved that song as long as I've been singing," David says. "It was one of the first songs I ever performed live. You can't imagine the thrill it was to get to work with Rick and Randy, and then to get the chance to record that song with his help. Troy is also making limited performances for Tommy Hilfiger USA, Inc. at selected stores that carry the Tommy Hilfiger products.

    Press Reviews
TROY DAVID "Troy David" One of the great joys for anyone who reviews music or writes on the subject, is the discovery of new talent. When this talent shows some true originality and abilities which have definite room to grow, the joy is even greater. Such is indeed the case with the self-titled debut release from Troy David. With a voice that is somewhat reminiscent of George Michael, yet with some very strong touches of old Motown, Troy David may emerge as one of the finest ballad singers to pop on the scene in quite some time. Showing more natural vocal abilities than the usual 90's studio enhancements, the young man knows the meaning of emotion and is not afraid to show it. As with any new artist, there are always a few surprises which ring through your ears. David's rendition of the old Anne Murray hit, "You Needed Me," gives the song a whole new life and with the inflections in his voice, he makes it quite emotional, yet not to the point where it can give you diabetes. The CD's opening cut of "Love's Not Listening" is really where he shows what may be a George Michael influence -- the breathy lyrical tones and at times reaching for notes which must have been hanging from the studio ceiling. The highlight of this release is a stunningly beautiful ballad entitled "Reaching My Goal." With a fine orchestration and damned close to perfect arrangement, this song is an emotional stunner. Don't be surprised at all, with the proper push, if this doesn't become one of those senior prom songs that is featured as the last slow dance (this meant to be a definite compliment). The downfall here is one song, "Down," which is given three different treatments; 1) Pop mix; 2) edited Dance mix; 3) Dance mix. All three versions come over the speakers as so canned you can almost hear the tin and will bring back the polyester memories of the European tech disco days. Of course it does help matters any that the background "vocals" by Tabitha Fair are screeched to the point you might attract dogs from the next county if you play it too loud. With proper guidance, a few breaks and the usual doses of luck which are all ingredients for a career in pop music (he very definitely has the talent), Troy David may prove not to be a flash in the pan, but the whole damned kitchen.
