Artist History
ROOTED in the genres of country, punk, and alternative, and WATERED in a
downpour of heavy metal attitude, Rexway is sprouting to stand among the big
trees in this musically cloned society. Unique in their approach and
appearance, this band is opening the doors for a new breed of sound...cross
Charlie Daniels and AC/DC and you might come close, smash Johnny Cash into
Motley Crue and you might come even closer. With their high-energy live
shows, guitar-driven metal licks, and melodic choruses that'll stick in your
head long after show is over, Rexway is poised on the launch pad...
Founded in the spring of 1999 by vocalist Mike Mitchell, guitarist Skot
Lain, and guitarist Chris Dockter, Rexway was born. With their appreciation
of "Stadium Rock" and a tried-and-true grasp on their Wyoming country music
roots, this trio set out to create something beyond the typical genres we
see in music today. After snatching up accomplished drummer Craig Dubin from
the bowels of the musical education industry, they launched a search for the
perfect bassist... Susan Phelan was just the fit. Her seductive look, her
musical talent (reminiscent of Les Claypool), her stage presence and
performance... Rexway was complete.
Following the distribution of their self-produced "County 10" CD in 2001,
Rexway spread like a hot summer wildfire. Word-of-mouth fueled what would
become an absolutely rabid fan-base across the Midwest...after scores of
packed shows and features on two international x-sport videos currently
being distributed by Fox Racing, the band was ready for the next big step-
HBO Reverb. It was in July of 2001, at Alice Cooper's "Cooperstown" Bar in
Denver...HBO Reverb recorded Rexway's scorching 45-minute performance, as
Billboard live witnessed. Billboard Live was looking for "something
spectacular", and they got it. The news of their performance laid the path
for an assortment of fan-crazed shows throughout Colorado, Nevada, Wyoming
and Nebraska. People came from as far away as California and South Dakota to
catch their Las Vegas performance at the "Boston"! Their opening slots for
national acts have included Tesla, Firehouse, and The Amazing Crowns...as
either an opener or a headliner; Rexway continues to burn up every stage
they hit. Spectrum Magazine compared their attraction of new fans to a "food
truck in a famine". They have been nominated as the Best Hard Rock Band in
Colorado, by the Westword 2002 Music Showcase (voting to be concluded June
18th 2002)- and were voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by Denver area voters in
GoGo Magazine, another Colorado publication. Currently working on their
second full-length CD, with constant live appearances throughout the Rocky
Mountain region- this band is unstoppable. Continuously on the rise, Rexway
is causing a stir in the music scene unlike anything since the explosion of
the "grunge" movement with Nirvana in Seattle.
The band is now seeking professional management and a major label support
for distribution and national touring. With the proper backing and
management support, Rexway has the potential not only to make it to the top,
but also to stay there as groundbreaking kings of the hill...long after
other bands have come to mimic their sound, style, and originality!" |

Press Reviews
Most Likely to Succeed: REXWAY
Lots of people try to label Rexway's music. Some try very hard. With a lot of hyphens, we could call it country-punk-metal-psychobilly-rock music. But that really doesn't do it justice. Rexway's three original members hail from our good ol' neighbor to the north, Wyoming. And they are not afraid to show it, use it, and bring it up on stage. In a musical and cultural atmosphere where appearing slick, shiny, and completely devoid of originality seems to be the norm, Rexway ignites the stale air and forces fire down your throat. In the past year, with the addition of magnetic bassist Susan Phelan and drummer Craig Dubin, the band's energy has gone from high voltage to absolutely nutso. During the first song at a recent live show, a packed house at Herman's Hideaway went berserk before singer Mike Mitchell had belted out the first chorus. The band plays often in the Rocky Mountain region, and just kicked ass at a recent jaunt to Las Vegas as a featured band from Localmusicscenes.com. The cowboy hats, the leather chaps, the whiskey, the heavy-metal guitar licks and the sheer sexiness of this band should remind us Denver can get a little bit country sometimes and still hold tightly to our hipster credibility. It's gutsy, it's confident, and it's a good time.
