Artist History
The Lyricist Lounge was founded by Danny Castro and Anthony Marshal in 1991 and has been the springboard of development for several of today's Hip-hop all-stars including: Lord Have Mercy, Rah Digga, Mos Def, Eminem, the Last Emporer, Cocoa Brothers, Foxy Brown, The outsiders, Mobb Deep, Dead Prez, The Infamous Syndicate, and M.O.P. to name a few. All of these groups have since signed with major labels. Last year, September 1998, to celebrate the release of the Lyricist Lounge Vol. 1 double compilation album "The Soundtrack To A Hip-hop Movement" on Open Mic/Rawkus, the Lyricist Lounge embarked on it's first national tour. Packed with names like Slick Rick, Blackstarr, Big Pun, Krs-One, De La Soul, Kid Capri, The Roots, Common, Eminem, and up and coming groups The Last Emperor, Defari, Natural Elements & other, this tour proved to be succesful. This year with MP3.com as the Title Sponsor, The Lyricist Lounge 1999 Domestic tour is back. Featuring Slick Rick, EPMD, Xzhibit as headliners and many more tight groups performing including unsigned groups from MP3.com. Check back here often and check out the calender to see who's performing in your area. |
