Musical Influences driving rock, new wave, glitch

Artist History Venue is a sexed-up new wave machine from Chicago. While pursuing degrees in visual arts, Chris May and producer Zak Marcom created a sound that captured the essence of their visual work and loves for melodic electronics and synthetic rock. The result is a sound free of limitation, using analog and digital instruments, processed vocals, and dirty drum machine beats. Raw, beautiful emotion is expressed in bits and pieces through a non-linear rock structure. Verses, chorus, and hooks are used in non-standard ways to better convey themes of seduction and innocent sarcasm. Venue captures this live with a band of reckless performers and a video installation created by May, who also designs the bands web and print material. Outside of Venue, Chris is founder of the Synesthesia art collective, a group of Chicago artists who throw events circulating around performance, art, and music. Their exploits have over run art galleries and left up scale nightclubs in tatters. He has also produced music videos for Victory Records and walked in runway shows for Armani and Jil Sander. Venue recently won the electronica category for the 2003 Diesel U Music awards with a performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom. They’ve also just released the much anticipated “caught on film” EP and will be performing on both coasts this summer.
