Press Reviews
Demo of the Month - GOLDLINER ***** - Making MusicThe standard of demos received by the Web Demonology desk continues to rise, with Goldliner currently leading the field by mixing Primal Scream, The Smashing Pumpkins, the Chilli Peppers and - oh god, here we go again - the Pixies. Oh sod it, let's just say Nirvana instead. When they recorded Bleach, that is. First track Assassin is the closest that Goldliner dare stray towards Xtrmntr's growling funk, though they do add a harmonica so the end result comes across more like Alabama 3. About eleven minutes later, however, that's all gone and the band are merrily torturing Billy Corgan to the point that he writes a sequel to "Tonight", names it "Out" and ties the whole thing up in a pleasing two minutes and fourteen seconds. As if that wasn't enough, "Chemical Heaven" is enough to break Bobby Gillespie's heart, simply because he didn't write it and it's not on Screamadelica. "Chemical Heaven" also includes a sample of Micheal Caine dialogue which extols values of a criminal nature and cannot therefore be repeated in this column. Never mind - in my opinion the only crime surrounding this CD is that it's not in the charts on the back of a major label. |
