    Artist History
Edable Gray broke through the New England music scene in late 1997 with emotion, desire, and intensity. Immediately, the band captured the attention of audiences, clubs, and press. As promoters for the Lawrence Bread and Roses Festival observed, “If you’re not up and dancing by the time these guys are through, you better check your pulse!”That energy level is deeply embedded in their self-titled, 6-song CD debut, released in December of 1997. The album, which was recorded at Euphoria Studios and was produced by Edable Gray, is representative of the force and liveliness that surrounds the band. EG’s genuine mix of Rock, R & B and Hip-Hop has compelled listeners to label the band as diverse and innovative.Edable Gray’s freshman album, along with the energy of their live show, earned the band immediate respect. In less than two years, the band has showcased their talent in celebrated venues, such as The House of Blues (Cambridge, MA), Mama Kin (Boston, MA), The Middle East (Cambridge, MA), T.T. the Bear’s Place (Cambridge, MA), Harper’s Ferry (Allston, MA), CBGB’s (Manhattan, NY), The Lizard Lounge (Cambridge, MA), Kendall Café (Cambridge, MA) and Chantilly’s (Manchester, NH).In addition, the soundness and vivacity of the EG stage show has granted the band opening gigs for prominent national and Boston bands, such as, Blessid Union of Souls, The Push Stars, Entrain, Bim Skala Bim, and Super Honey.Recently, the band entered the renowned Normandy Sound recording studio in August 1998 to record their sophomore album entitled “Songs from M.A.R.S” (M.A.R.S serving as an acronym for the band members initials). This time the band chose veteran producer Marisa Déry, a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the head Mastering Engineer at Tape Complex in Boston, to produce the album. The album features distinguished musicians, such as, The Vine Street Horns (the horn section for Aretha Franklin, Phil Collins, Maceo Parker, and featured artists on the Mambo Kings soundtrack etc…), Don Puluse – engineer for Chicago, and Jamie Locke – sound/mixing engineer of six gold records. As the band approaches its third year of captivating New England audiences, they are finding that fans are still hungry for Edable Gray. By no means has the band lost its intensity or drive; they continue to probe nightclubs with inceptive artistry. “Edable” is for musical food for thought and “Gray” is for many shades in one; a name that fits the band’s unique blend of musicianship. So open wide, Edable Gray may soon be coming to a venue near you.

What we have here is some very slick and very classy hip-hop-infused street jazz. Edable Gray use the traditional piano, bass and drum trio as their foundation and add in smooth vocals, funk-style guitar and a little MC-rhyme action. The resulting jam is very urban and hip as well as smooth and mellow - as drums dish out a solid 4/4 groove, piano rings in the seventhchords and the bass player is free to travel all over the fingerboard. Especially nice on this disc is the straight-up “Four Beats,” wherein the piano takes a backseat to some turntable stylin's. The only real flaw in this album is the fact that it contains only four original tunes, the other two tracks being unremarkable remixes. It leaves the listener very thirsty for more, but perhaps that's the whole idea. Edable Gray keep it real like nobody else and are definitely worth checking out. ******************** -Luke Pyles, The Northeast Performer. *************************************************************************** Bordering on funky jazz compositions, Edable Gray takes it one step further by adding cool-headed, crystal clear vocals that takes the songs to a higher level. Even when the band shifts into rap, Edable Gray maintains a universal sound that can be enjoyed by more than just your gangsta types. This is the sound of the civilized city and one I'm happy to add to my local collection.*************************** -Douglas Sloan, Metronome Magazine, November 2000
