Artist History
The group came into being in Debica, which is in the south of Poland, in early autumn'98. However, the line up was quite different then, so it is only autumn'99 that may be considered as the "real beginning".
In autumn'00 (September/October) the band recorded first demo CD, which consists of four tracks. The music on this CD is a blend of the band members' fascinations and is mainly based on the combination of heavy guitar sound and the sound of string instruments. The lyrics are mostly based on the Bible.
The group has performed a few concerts (on the Market Square in Cracow during the Christian Students Festival'01, also supported the famous Polish Christian rock band ARMIA in Debica), the demo CD has been played in a few Polish radio stations. The CD has also been reviewed in Thrash'em All (a Polish Metal Magazine), Metal Hammer and in Ruah (a Polish Christian Music Magazine).
In winter/spring 2002 the band recorded a new 3-song demo. One of the songs is in English. Due to better production, the songs sound a bit heavier; nevertheless, the strings are even more prominent. On two of the songs guest vocals appear; they were performed by Norbert Kalucki (bass vocals) and Bogdan "Bulba" Czernia (ex-Creep/Chinook - raspy vocals).
'Demo 2' gathered quite a few reviews so far, it has gained favourable reviews in Multum in Parvo, Nocturnal Battle of Chariots, Strefa Klimatyczna, Culturis, Mrock (Pol), Walls of Fire (German), Christian Metal Mayhem, Black Cauldron, The Whipping Post, Critical Metal (USA), Devotion (SWE), Metal Metropolis (NOR), www.doom-metal.com (HOL) and a few others.
The year 2003 has also brought some more intensive live activity; the group performed at SLOT ART.DAY in Kraków (2.03), Stalowa Wola (09.03), Cieszanów (02.05), Stary SÄ…cz (20.06) and ARCHA FEST in Vsetin (Czech Rep. – 21.06).

Illuminandi - Demo I & Demo II : "Haggard worship is what we get on this work combining the two demo's of this Polish band. The band shares the extensive use of strings (violin, cello), acoustic guitars and the combination of brutal vocals and clean singing (both male and female) with the masters of classically inspired death/gothic metal. The main difference is that Illuminandi take a more serene approach, since the string arrangements and clean vocals are here in the majority. Although the sound quality on the second demo has clearly improved, there are not many differences between the two demo's in terms of song writing and musical approach. The compositions are mostly relaxed, some times more uptempo, but in general they should please most fans of symphonic dark metal like Haggard, Cemetery of Scream and Therion, although the high musical level of the underestimated Estatic Fear or the first Lacrimas Profundere album is seldom reached. Remarkable and original is the fact that all tracks (with the exception of 'The light') are sung in Polish.

ILLUMINANDI - demo I, 2000 : "The stuffs I got from Poland for this issue are either Doom or Brutal Death Metal ones. ILLUMINANDI belongs to the first lot, so the tempo remains near the slow paces, it rarely speeds up (still, it does in the third song). It is a six-piece-band, so you can imagine that a cello and a violin accompany with the usual instruments, while vocal-wise the 4 songs are quite diverse, using female, clean and screaming male vocals. The lyrics are fortunately in Polish, because they're based on the book of lies, the Bible (they take it positively, of course). This language sounds a bit strange, but it doesn't bother me, I like it. For a debut demo, both the sound and the music can be acceptable, though more originality won't kill them next time."
(#4 SHRUNKEN & MUMMIFIED'zine - HUNGARY) ILLUMINANDI - Demo I : "This also was provided for review by my good friend Wojciech of Poisonous Piglet distro (addy in contact section), and is a local band from his area of Debica, in southern Poland. ILLUMINANDI's debut demo is 4 tracks which range from up tempo metal/rock (the last two songs: "Kielich" and "Alleluja", which also happen to be my favorites) to more morose passages. These seem to be heavily influenced by classical music, and feature very well played violin and cello melodies in addition to the metal guitars and 3 vocalists. Also present are some very cool ethnic melodies and percussion, as well as exquisite female vocals in the track "Alleluja". ILLUMINANDI's first demo is one which shows signs of promise (especially in the last 2 tracks), and if the band can work on making things a bit more memorable, they will hopefully evolve into something very cool.
