    Artist History
Shinobu is a four-piece, lyrically driven power-pop band centered out of San Jose, CA. Eschewing the normal lyrical boundaries of like-minded genres, Shinobu opt, instead, to write about people (both as a whole and alone), real emotions, and just what it is to be alive in modern culture. Influenced by such bands as The Weakerthans, Going Steady, New Order, and Death Cab For Cutie, the band was started in the fall of 2002 when Mike and Jon realized that they wanted to play a more honest, simple style of music than what most bands in their area were playing. They were, at the time, playing together in a punk band called Argyle, and soon began practicing on their own. Mutual friends, Bob (bass) and Vince (guitar), were asked to secure the Shinobu lineup. Following Vince’s departure in the summer of 2003, local jazz veteran and longtime friend, Matt Keegan was recruited on guitar. Their recent accolades include opening for such acts as Xiu Xiu (5RC/Kill Rock Stars), The Flipsides (Pink and Black/Fat Wreck), legendary hip-hop emcee, Sage Francis (Anticon), and performing main support locally for the soon-to-explode White Light Motorcade (Octane) on their Advance Warning Tour (sponsored by the College Music Journal, Nokia, and MTV2), as well as performing at such local events as: Stop Drop and Rock and PiNoisepop - all of which prove their mutability and strength among any crowd. Frontman, Mike Huguenor, was voted Best Local Guitarist in the 2002 Best of the Silicon Valley issue of esteemed publication, The Metro. Their recent material from their self released ep “Exhaustion, Exhaustion” is featured on Springman Record’s Punk Rock Strike volume 4. A full length release on Let’s Go Records is expected to be released by winter of 2004.
