Artist History
I first started learning to play country music at the age of 12. With a $15 flat top guitar and a book of chords, I sat for hours learning the songs on the radio.
At 15, I joined a band called "Yesterday's Children" that played the popular music of the day. This included the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Monkees, and Herman's Hermits. It was a good learning experience and made me realize how much fun music could be. I played bass with that band for about a year.
I was in every choir class I could get throughout junior high and high school. Through the coaching of an excellent choir director, I became a part of the Concert Choir in high school and performed at many different places. I was a part of this group for 2 years singing everything from the Jubilate Deo to Age of Aquarius.
After high school, I worked as a dock worker and truck driver until joining the United States Air Force in 1975. During my service in the Air Force, I was stationed in Tampa, Florida and Lakenheath, England. There were always people around making music for a fun pastime. While I was stationed in England, I met a group of guys and formed a band that played at the base Rod and Gun club on a regular basis. We also played the local British village halls for many special occasions. t was a lot of fun to take American country music to the British people and they really enjoyed it.
After leaving the Air Force, I returned to my home in Portage, Michigan. I joined a very popular band there known as Country Roads. I spent three years with that band playing many clubs and private gatherings.
In 1981 I became acquainted with the manager of a park in Angola, Indiana known as Buck Lake Ranch. I performed opening acts there for such stars as Conway Twitty, George Jones, Jack Greene, and Alabama. It was really exciting to work with all these people.
I went back to driving for the next 20 years to raise my three sons. Now that they are pretty well grown, I am returning to my first love of music. I am still an owner-operator and spend a lot of time on the road. You may see me rolling down the highway anywhere from Maryland to California. If you see me, be sure to give me a shout and say Hi. I would love to meet you. I've made a lot of friends on the road and really enjoy visiting as we go rolling along. I am taking time now to sing at The Music Barn in Martin, Michigan the second Saturday of every month and at Faith Chapel in Kalamazoo, Michigan the third Saturday of the month. If you happen to be in our area on these nights you are welcome to come on in and have a listen. There is no charge and we would be glad to see you there.
