Artist History
KYSER SOZE has a long and vibrant history of making music meant to inspire and illicit emotional responses from it's listeners. Formed in 1995 by founding members Rich Moore (guitar/vocals), Troy Carlton (bass), Scott Hawkens (drums) and Jason Ferris (rhythm guitar) in Flint Michigan, KYSER SOZE was founded with a vision of creating powerful & innovative music which incorporated the best of Rock, Jazz and progressive music elements.
After a successful 3 year run in the Flint/Detroit area in which KYSER SOZE received an enthusiastic response, the group decided to take a hiatus in order to pursue other musical endeavors. After relocating to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2000 founding members, Rich Moore & Troy Carlton began the search for fresh ideas by incorporating new members. In 2002 the search was complete with the addition of Grand Rapids native Paul Ward on drums & percussion who has brought a new approach to KYSER SOZE with his powerful style of drumming.
The heart & soul of KYSER SOZE can be said to rest with frontman Rich Moore. As a founding member of the group Rich has served as primary song writer and lyricist since 1995. Drawing inspiration from his varied musical tastes in Jazz, Rock & Blues music, Rich strives to create new musical soundscapes in which he expresses in the form of KYSER SOZE. The consummate poet and artist, Rich combines a personal approach to lyrics with his refreshing take on musical composition which has helped KYSER SOZE blaze a path into the musical wilderness of intelligent & thought provoking rock music.
Troy Carlton could be said to be the rhythmic backbone of KYSER SOZE. With 14 years of bass playing experience and a variety of musical projects, Troy has honed his unique & complex approach to the bass guitar into a powerful vehicle for expression. With influences ranging from extreme metal to jazz & delta blues, Troy has become a versatile and open minded master of the bass guitar. Focusing his intensity & passion for the bass into a powerful instrument, Troy has become an anchor for Rich's unique song writing style for nearly a decade.
Although new to KYSER SOZE, Paul Ward has a long history of being involved in music & the arts in Michigan as an owner of Grand Rapid's award winning multimedia agency BlackBOX and nearly a decade of playing in Grand Rapid's area music groups. Paul has worked as a guitarist, vocalist, saxophonist, drummer & sound engineer on a variety of endeavors ranging from Metal, Rock, Jazz, Industrial, Goth & Electronica music. Paul serves not only as KYSER SOZE's time keeper but also as it's business & marketing manager, he handles everything from designing all marketing materials to scheduling performance dates for the band. KYSER SOZE's self titled debut was even engineered and produced by Paul in his recording facilities located at BlackBOX.
KYSER SOZE is looking forward to bringing it's listeners to new musical planes with it's refreshing brand of innovative rock music. In the world of KYSER SOZE expression is through emotion, thought & sound. |
