"Guitarist-vocalist Tony Pulizzi has chops, attitude, and heart" Scene Magazine, Cleveland, Ohio"
Tony Pulizzi has been playing professionally since his teens and is currently one of the busiest, sought after players on the talent-packed Cleveland, Ohio music scene.
A professional career that has spanned an extraordinary amount of versatility and mastery, takes Pulizzi from sideman, session player, teacher, engineer, producer and bandleader, to solo performer and composer.
Like many highly creative artists, Pulizzi needs a variety of contexts to express the full range of his musical vision. Pulizzi has gained great notoriety and acclaim as guitarist on the R & B/ jazz scene but you can still catch him playing a rock gig with his own band Heritage Drive or a solo guitar performance at the art museum.
Pulizzi has shared the stage with the likes of R & B great Angela Bofill, Neo-Soul singer Conya Doss, R & B singer Vesta Williams, Little Anthony & The Imperials, and guitarist Alex Skolnik just to name a few. Pulizzi's has played on countless other CD’s by artists such as pop singer Anne Cochran (A & E Records), gospel singer Charles Woolfork, and co-wrote the song, Remembrance (9/11/01) with James Lloyd of Pieces of a Dream heard on their recent CD release, "Love's Silhouette".
A musician's musician, Pulizzi's professional portfolio puts him involved in many top projects and even if his name does not immediately ring a bell, there is no mistaking his unique and distinctive guitar sound does. When it comes to improvised solos, Pulizzi is a genius. The technical application of chord changes applied to the development of solos combined with great feel in his rhythm playing as well as lead will make you think. “His approach to playing is extremely creative and adventurous, yet always accessible. This is a rare trait,” says colleague Duncan Crooks.
A Bowling Green State University cum laude graduate in Jazz and Classical Music Performance and a minor in Recording Technology, Pulizzi maintains a part-time business recording all areas of music in his home studio.
During his collegiate association, he taught guitar at the University of Findlay and currently has compositions published through the Colorado Jazz Press. Pulizzi remains in constant demand as a teacher with fellow musicians taking lessons in guitar, bass, improv and theory. Pulizzi also instructs for the “Excellence in Music” –a program for high school students through Cuyahoga Community College.
Not only in the spotlight performing, Tony has also dabbled with show work, performing at Cedar Point's Red Garter Saloon in his teen years to most recently with Broadway hits “The Full Monty" and “The Lion King”.
To date, Tony has released three self-titled albums, the first, an original jazz-progressive rock project, “Looking Back” with his band, Heritage Drive, a smooth jazz Christmas album, “Your Christmas List” with saxophonist, Eddie Baccus Jr. and most recently a debut original solo guitar album called “Pleasantview Place”. You are going to see Pulizzi take center stage of many a musical frontier, all done exceptionally well and with his very special and personal musical vision!
