Artist description
From the day the ebony and ivory tickled her small, fragile, three year old fingers, she was hooked. She found her source of undying love, passion, and commitment.
McRae’s melodic and soulful music has touched audiences all across the United States.
She has a way of grabbing you out of your seat and putting you into her shoes while she’s on stage. Her voice is somewhat like an angel, yet you can hear the pain and sorrow she’s suffered when she performs.
McRae has worked with producer and engineer, Chopper Black, who has engineered albums for Yanni, Paula Abdul, Jazzmine Guy and many others. McRae has written with Kevin Bowe, who has written with Etta James, Jonny Lang, Lynard Skynnard, and Kenny Wayne Sheppard.
“When Crista sings, it’s like Janis Joplin’s ghost being filtered through Mary J Blige’s beat-box,” says Kevin Bowe.
Crista is currently in the studio working on her next CD at Echobay Studios (Prince, Dave Matthews Band, Craig David and David Gray have recorded in the same studios). Well known producer Bobby Z who was the former drummer for Prince and the Revolution and was producer for top artists like Boy George/Culture Club, Sheila E and the Latin Sounds Orchestra, and Jonny Lang, is working on the project.
One of McRae’s songs, “Everyday Angel,” is featured in the movie, “Katerskill Falls,” which has aired on Showtime and the Sundance channel. McRae was recently featured on the program, “Right on the Money.” The program touched on the lives of four different independent artists and bands and aired nationally in April of 2003. Crista graduated with an Associates Degree in Music Business at Musictech College this August of 2003.
Crista was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota and has been involved with music in some way or form for her entire life. She started out with piano and violin when she was very young. She didn’t write her own songs until she stumbled upon a guitar when she was sixteen and has been persistant at displaying her obsession with writing since that day. Her main focus these days is incorporating the music she has been influenc ed by, into her songwriting.
