Artist History
Originally formed in 1996, Chelsea was bred from the musical styling of The Doors, Neil Young, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, and The Cranberries. In that year, they embarked on a journey that in the end, is sure to make them one of this century's most influential artists. Chelsea, Niel Balestrieri(vox) and John Cox(guitars), discovered their musical chemistry in late 1996, in Jersey City, NJ. As co-workers in a retail establishment, the guys decided to try and perform some songs together, and the results were extraordinary. After months of working together and playing music that ranged from the late 60's to the late 90's, Chelsea was officially formed.
Originally a strict "cover" band, Chelsea began to dabble in writing some music of their own in early 1997. For You, their first original song, was an instant success. After selling hundreds of copies of their single, the guys realized their potential and emerged with another hit, Rain. If We Could and Indifference, were just confirmations that the band was on it’s way. By the end of 1998, Chelsea had already established a written collection of over 40 songs.
In 1998 the band fell on hard times. Not only did the lose their long time guitarist and friend, Vito Laurenza, they also had difficulty finding a drummer and bassist that would gel with their unusual style. After rebuilding several times, Chelsea decided to take a break to regroup.
In 2001 after a long extended vacation, John and Niel decided to reunite as Chelsea and continue in their proven tradition of songwriting. They managed to developed a following across the US through Napster with over 10,000 total downloads of For You, and since then, both John & Niel have been responsible for both writing and performing all aspects of their songs. The guys continue to write song after song, and are currently working with Tera Productions in the final stages of producing their first CD.
Chelsea has recently been acknowledged by Barstar.com as one of the Top 10 Bands in the NY area in 2002, and has been asked to submit posters and promotional items by Miramax Studios to be used in their upcoming movie entitled "Duplex". Chelsea has also been invited to headline a Compilation CD for The Grand Lodge of Texas' School Systems, benefiting the Texas School Systems and assisting in the placement of disadvantaged children. The album , entitled "Giving Hope for Tomorrow" will be available for sale in January of 2004, with airplay beginning at over 10 stations in the Dallas /Fort Worth area in September of 2003. Chelsea is scheduled to follow up with the release of their full-length album in February of 2004. |

Press Reviews
"One of New York's Top Ten Bands..."
- BarStar.com
"This is one of those songs that carries the weight of the words on the melody. The force of conviction in the lyrics keeps the listener glued to the narrative. That makes the music very satisfying because the implications of the song are lulled into our conciousness by the hypnotic melody. "
