Artist History
Ashoka, a modern rock band based in New York, is led by singer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist Ashok Warrier. Formed in Chicago, Ashoka released it's first Ep "The Human Mixture" in 1998 before relocating to New York City. After an exhausting round of shopping demos and a revolving door of musicians, Ashok retreated to his home studio and produced the masterful "American Mantra."
Although the album is mostly a one person effort, Ashoka is now a full band performing in various venues in New York. Free from the corporate tyranny of popular music, Ashoka has produced music of stunning originality and profound scope into the nature of life, love, and the pursuit of individuality, while retaining a guitar heavy rock edge painted on a soaring melodic canvas. |
