Artist History
Misconception was formed in the fall of 2001 (sophomore year). The founding members of the band were the bassist, Johnny Moulton, and two guitarists, Arthur Alvarez and Alex Dunks. They recruited their friend Evan Bowman on drums and began practicing. The heavy presence of their first singer, Russell Witt was not emphasized until shortly their first show in December of 2001. After their first real show, they decided to add more songs, and dropped a few at the same time. Another chance to play in the Vet’s Hall basement was given to them by the local metal band Entragian (www.entragian.com) in April of 2002. The set was once again short, but the material drastically better than before.
Soon, the rest of the band began to move in a different direction stylistically than their singer, and tensions caused the band to part with Russell. Alex, Johnny, and Arthur began to sing lead, but after a few weeks of trying, they all decided they would prefer to have a lead singer, and Matt Chaney tried out and was given the job instantly. Their first show with Matt in July of 2002 at Don Quixotes in Felton was a success, and the band moved on, wavering from diverse progressive rock to straight up hardcore, and now the most defining sound that Misconception has is that of progressive/melodic hardcore.
