Artist description James Mayo (Mayo), has been blessed as a child to hear all style of music. Sharon Mayo who is his mother, being the Minister of Music in his church, had Mayo in a gospel choir at a very young age. She did not stop there; Mayo is a huge fan of movie musicals dating back to the fifties. Through the musicals he developed a love for creating songs from everyday life experiences. Growing up in a time where old school R&B acts like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and Temptations set a standard for what Mayo considered great music. As a teenager hip hop & popular artist Prince, Madonna & Tupac wrote songs that lyrically & musically influenced him for life. He soon started taking piano lesson, guitar and formed a R&B male group called 1st Impression. The five piece boy band won several local talent show around Nashville, before they soon gave up like most. Mayo then studied classical music at Aquinas College, to expand his musical knowledge while attempting to get his business degree and fulfill his basketball scholarship obligations. In January of 2002, Mayo joined a Hard rock act. During this time he realized the pure intense drive be hide ripping guitar leads, & double bass kits. He fronted this band with all his passion. Soon after realizing that he has much to offer the music world, his quest for a solo career began. Mayo has founded & now run www.onthe9entertainment.com to help artist in Nashville, TN and surrounding areas.
