Artist History
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, claims the right to call itself home to an up and coming rock group offering the self explanatory title ‘Asmatic’. This four piece band emulates the essentials for a solid sound through it’s dynamic approach on the conventional rock scene. They offer a unique blend of rigid, crisp drumming, snappy guitar licks, and catchy rhythms that combine with a passionate lyrical score to produce a hearty dose of rock ‘n’ roll.
Currently, the group is wrapping up the post production of their first full length CD, scheduled for a release early winter. Preparations are presently underway for the CD release tour which will be announced once all the tour dates are finalized.
The band which formed only a year ago in the spring of 2002 has come further and faster than the members could anticipate, “ I was extremely excited over our first tour being finalized only a few months after our first session jamming together.” vocals/guitarist Ryan Cullen laments on the ‘Brains Tour’, which stretched through most of Western Canadian.
Together with drummer Dylan Shipowick, bassist Peter Maier, and lead guitarist Adam Unser, Asmatic was born into a music scene filled with competitive talents, each trying to make their mark in a radio driven industry. “Sometimes when I hear local bands I think they’re holding back because of the way they think they should sound; or in other words, they play what they think the masses will like. I think that in most cases it hurts the band, I mean, ‘Tea Party’ didn’t become successful by sounding like everything on the radio,” comments Dylan.
From witnessing only one performance an observer wouldn’t be able to miss the high energy and intense showmanship displayed by the group as they fly through their set. “The guys draw the crowd in and hold them till the end,” Krash, 104.9 The Wolf, “…you have a great time because they are.” Aggressive ‘in your face’ numbers such as ‘Garage Song’, or ‘Pride’ bring the crowd off their feet and into the air, while the melodramatic rock ballad aptly named ‘Pretty Little Overdose’ displays the bands ability to compose musically compelling songs that tastefully touch on controversial issues; ‘... this one is a lyrical picaso...’ notes co-producer Brad Drozda.
As such a young band 'Asmatic’ has only just begun their long journey to the top, a destination they feel is certain to come, the only question is when. “I want to earn success,” conveys Peter, “simply meaning that I don’t want a deal” (record contract) “just handed to me like some kind of ‘pop star’ or ‘American idol’. I’m prepared for the ups and downs associated with this kind of choice, I just have be patient and keep working hard.”
