    Press Reviews
Misantrooper Webzine Says: There is often a great difference between the various demo tapes we receive, sometime the bands musical ability lie at a kindergarten level, and sometimes it is well-played, well-produced and nicely packaged. Hyperborean fall into the later category, the music is extremely technical and well-played and together with a good production and a nice packaging (the cover alone cost the guys 1000 Skr) they give a very serious impression, an important thing for a band searching for a contract. Hyperborean play melodic metal with influences of Black, Trash and Death metal and the lyrics deal with our favorite Soap, the Norse mythology. The lyrics deal with the last years of the Aesir, from the death of Balder to coming of Fimbula Winter, the third song, Sorgesång, is an acoustic song with beautiful female vocals that tell of the shedding of tears for Balder and of Loki (in the form of the old hag Tökk), who's word's "Hel må behålla vad hon har" (Hel may keep what is hers) released Ragnarök. The material is varied, from fast grinding to part's that are very Iron Maiden like, everything is very nicely dun and there is no question about the fact that Hyperborean have some very skilled musicians. "Of Malice" is one of the best Demos I have reviewed thus far and I hope that a record company will go for this. 8.5/10 - Melodic, varied, beautiful Mikael Görtz - Misantrooper webzine --------------------------------------------------- Urkraft Webzine Says: The influences from Germany and bands like Helloween are quite evident in the sound of many Swedish melodic death metal bands. Instead of looking the same way Hyperborean sounds more inspired by the N.W.O.B.H.M movement and by Iron Maiden in particular when it comes to the guitar harmonies. Perhaps it is unfair to describe the band as melo-death also since they have quite a lot in common with more black oriented acts such as Dissection and Ablaze My Sorrow. The vocals in particular are more screetching and black metal sounding. The use of female vocals adds flavour to the songs and Martina Forss deserves an applaude for her performance! Extremely talented lady this one! I have no complaints what-so-ever about the songs and their quality but the demo could serve from a better production. The sound is poor and doesn't do justice to the high quality of the music and the performance (though the guitars could use some tuning). Hopefully they can enter a better recording facility soon, preferably with back-up from a label (Nuclear Blast, what are you waiting for!?)! Oh and nice touch with the folkish sounding Sorgesång guys!! Beautiful!!! Hyperborean is an interesting name for the future! Look em up! 8/10 - Very good.
