Press Reviews
From UltimateMetal.comGodamm!! Throttlerod is one band that has successfully captured their live energy on a studio recording. An adrenaline-pumping thirteen tracks of hyper-kinetic rock n' roll....no Stoner here, this is Rock n' Roll made for beer guzzlin' and brawling...Forget Stoner Rock, this is "Fist-fight Rock" as my fellow Stoner aficionado and MBA student Eric Thaler would call it. I can see heavily inebriated mullet-heads in a sports bar somewhere in South Carolina knocking the shit out of each other, creating puddles of spilled Coors Lite and blood while the band plays on....The Bo Leslie/Matt Whitehead guitar duo pack more riffs in one song than a whole lot of bands pack in their entire histories. Come to think of it, there isn't one riff that doesn't give catalyst to some kinda bang of the head, stomp of the foot, or groove of the bod...I mean, Christ, I don't mean to go overboard and seem like I'm excessively kissing ass here, but where do these guys come up with this stuff? Just when you thought musicdom ran out of things to do on a guitar.....And another thing, the drummer has got to have a meth habit or something. No one can keep that up a whole friggin' set...I mean you got to hear the album just to dig this guy. His arms are going fall off....there is a section near the end of "Alone on the Moon" where the thought is "Dude!! You got to give that shit up or you'll waste away to nothing". Seriously, props must be given to this guy because not only can he beat the shit out a drum kit, but he does it with stellar amounts of talent. There are beats and fills on here that both amaze and entertain. Hats off to you, Mr. McNabb. The drums n' bass interplay between Mr. McNabb and bassist Mr. Nicholson in the break on the song "Three Rings" before Mr. Leslie works the fretboard is amazing. The singing abilities of Matt Whitehead fits the Southern ass-whuppin' flavor of the Throttlerod sound. Mr. Whitehead sounds not unlike a certain heavy smoking, heavy drinking, vegetarian vocalist from Sweden named Spice (Spritual Beggars, The Mushroom River Band), but with an edge...like he's been drinking Schlitz instead of that green-bottle shit. If high-energy....VERY high energy rock is your thing....hell, even if it's not, your gonna like this. Rocking tunes like "Blue t-Top", "On the Hunt", "Three Rings", "American Guadeloupe" and "Hogwild" (ESPECIALLY "Hogwild") will make you wanna whup the one you love, your neighbor and the postman to boot. Great stuff! |
