Artist History
In the shadow of this massive structure, stand four metal minds. They provide followers of the metal underground a loud place to reside. Always playing by their rules, and not conforming to any of the fly-by-night music trends. Monolith paves new roads with an old-school mentality. The band provides listeners with heavy grooves, intense speed, vast guitar riffs, solos that slay, immense drumming, and a profound vocal assault. Mixing all of these characteristics together, the outcome is highly volatile, while their sound encompasses technical wizardry that is unmatched by their peers. During the past ten years Monolith has maintained the same members, produced three full length albums, performed 500+ shows, and they only crave more.

Press Reviews
This band is from Virginia (That's in the States kids.) play cool Thrash Metal with melody and I don't know what the fuck is on their CD cover but that doesn't really matter does it? The music should sell a CD not cover art. So, look at many photos of me and be giddy with joy instead. Monolith remind me of some 80's Thrash bands. The vocals kind of verge on Hardcore but don't quite go there. They are unique as they are not growled meaninglessly, grunted nor are they high pitched. They're more like shouted but not exactly just pissed off but essentially getting their point across. I give up trying to explain. They just fit the music perfect. Musically, it's Thrash but the bass has a modern sound to it's not like it's bass heavy and making you want to "break something." You know what I mean. Nu Metal, it aint. Monolith takes their time to paint songs that have slow sections that are heavy to integrate against cool hard Thrashing moments and the occasional "Cheerleader style" back up vocals are always cool. Guitar work is quite good, they let you know they can lay down the killer solo and they do but they don't bog the thing down like a Shrapnel Records release. They come when they need to be and the rest of the time is concentrating on complimenting the music where needed.---Metal Rules Magazine---..............................
"Metal Odyssey" opens up Monolith's fourth full-length and I suppose it's kind of telling for the "odyssey" that has been Monolith's career. Over the years they've gone through maybe one or two members and unlike a lot of bands, they've managed to really keep the core members throughout the years and really stick to playing shows both in the local area and especially recently on a national level. You can really tell how tight they are. The songwriting is a step above their last offering and the lyrics are just as easily accessible and feature that great sing-a-long quality that I've come to expect. As far as production goes The Bayliss Brothers really have gone the extra mile along with Tom Farrell's (a real legend in the making!) help. One thing that I've noticed on this album more than the last three is that they've managed to come to terms with their sound. This album is a great coalescing of more old-school metal, a bit of death growl, and the nu-metal stylings of say Machinehead and Soulfly. The rhythm section is as always one to be reckoned with and combine that with the double fuzz of the two-axe attack that are their guitarists. Honestly I think one of the best things that Monolith did was get another guitarist. The very dynamics that his extra guitar brings to the fold has really opened up the assault that is Monolith. So if you're looking for an ass-kicking good time, ultra-fast and at times off-kilter percussion, guitar solos that slay, and vocals that have become all over the spectrum, become "One Nation Under Metal". Besides these guys have the funniest album names! Good luck guys!---Smother E-zine--- |
