Artist description
Jordan Charnofsky holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. He was honored by the faculty as The Outstanding Doctoral Degree Graduate of the USC School of Music in 1997. He also holds the Master of Music degree and the Bachelor of Music degree. Since September 1995, he has held the position of Musical Artist-in-Residence at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in Simi Valley.
As a featured soloist with symphony orchestras, to solo performances on television shows, to performances in Japan and Russia, Charnofsky excels as a solo performer and ensemble musician. He is a founder and the producer of the world music group Hollywood Klezmer. He produced the CD From L.A. to Odessa, recorded at The Eastwood Scoring Stage of Warner Brothers Studios. Jordan has taught for The USC Thornton School of Music, The L.A. Jewish Symphony, The University of Judaism, and Cerritos College.
The Columbia Music Company has published Jordan's original guitar compositions, including Divertimento & Sonho do Mar. Theodore Presser Co. is the distributor of these works. Jordan was commissioned by The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet to specially arrange three traditional Klezmer Dances for them. The L.A. Guitar Quartet has recorded the Klezmer Dances (Tracks 6-8) on their top selling album LAGQ (1998) on the Sony Classical label.
With six years of live entertaining at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, on-stage accompanying Luciano Pavarotti in Staples Center, being featured with his group in the Playboy Jazz Festival, to being featured in the World Festival of Sacred Music, Jordan leads a very diverse and unique performing career. He has recently (2003) served as the regular guitarist/mandolinist for the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra.
A refined classical cross-over artist, Jordan bridges the styles of classical, folk, world music, new age, pop, rock, klezmer and Sephardic music. Jordan has absorbed music from many of the world's traditional cultures, with his guitar as the unifying, universal link. From the purity of playing the Renaissance lute and Baroque guitar, to utilizing software synthesizers and computer audio sampling, Jordan openly embraces music from ancient times to the 21st century.
