Artist description
Jimmy Cypher approaches the guitar as unconventionally as he possibly can without destroying the groove. Having delved into the guitar work of many of the classic rock greats, he has more recently explored a musical journey that seamlessly fuses the most indulgent aspects of contemporary rock, classic rock and even flamenco guitar with modern electronic dance and world rhythms. Highly intricate Techno grooves and textures abound and stand side by side with Turntables and Middle Eastern and Latin Percussion. The result is a genre-bending, groove-oriented music that not only holds one’s attention but challenges both rock and dance fans alike to re-define notions of acceptable song length, harmonic complexity, and a radical stylistic abandon that actually works.
Cypher has developed a signal chain for his guitar that allows him to generate -- in a live setting -- many of the extreme sounds associated with synth-based techno and rave music while his signature "streaming" echoes and soaring 2 octave pitch shifts explore uncharted territory. In short, Cypher does not close the door on any viable musical possiblities whatsoever, and frequently resorts to avante-garde re-interpretations of his own compositions that metamorphosize into full blown re-mixes. It is here that much of the guest talent and co-conspirators that have touched and influenced his sound are given more space to express themselves than traditional album arrangements will generally allow.
From the hi-energy rock riffs, Mississippi delta slide guitar and blistering beats of Afro House, to the hip-hop/rock extravaganza of Stratosphere, and the outer-space waveform morphing of Zero Gravity, Cypher creates beats and sounds that make electronic music fans proud while also ensuring that rock-n-rollers do not leave disappointed. His first CD, Zenith is now available.
