Artist History
With a name and sound that betray their 80s upbringing, Girls on Film bounce and bob their way back to the Me Decade with a repertoire of original songs sure to get people dancing. Touching on a number of retro and current styles, the girls uptempo beats are infused with sharp, insightful lyrics and a diversity that never gets old.
The band began quietly in the Summer of 2000, when singer Rio and Kazhmir(who was teaching herself how to play bass guitar) began writing songs together. After a number of dead-end collaborations, the girls began working with producer, Tim Curry, who helped them refine their songs; Tim also began writing keyboard arrangements to enhance their sound. Soon after, Machine was enlisted to play drums and Girls on Film was born. Since then, they have completed their all-female line-up by adding Digital D. on the keys.
With fun being the primary motivation, the girls plan to spread the word that their propulsive take on the 80s is more than just another revival . . . it’s an awakening.
