Artist History
Have you ever felt the need to just take things
into your own hands? Have you ever felt the
desire to do something, just because you know
only you can do it right? In April of 2002,
Eric Hill felt this way about ska music, and
intended to do something about it. Calling in
the reinforcements, he gathered sax player Chris
Steffen, bass player John Baxter, drummer Scott
Sautter, and himself on guitar, and got to work.
Soon after, the need for more "hornage" became
an issue, so trombone guru James Anderson joined
the ranks. When The Brawlers (as they came to
be called) practiced, they practiced hard,
practiced rough, and practiced for perfection.
Unfortunetly, they barely practiced at all.
After about 2 months of bandhood, the Brawlers
had written 2 songs, and spent 700 dollars on
Wendy's. Here is where I'd like to say that the
Brawlers exploded out of their shell of laziness,
and ended up in a stupor of musical genious.
I say I'd like to say this, because it would
make them sound cool. But if I did say this, I
would be lying, because the truth is that the
Brawlers only existed for the next 4 months…
nothing more. No new songs, no shows, no cds…
just a name. Then the changes came… Tensions ran
high and things were said… out of the dust came
a "new" band, minus one Eric Hill. Now nameless
and guitar-less, the former Brawlers searched
high and low…all while continuing to eat Wendy's.
Eventually, they found now-guitarist Jimmy Dott,
and things were back in business. Soon after,
around the new-year, trombonist Luke Autry was
added to the roster. Now calling themselves
CUandthePGs, the band wrote songs. Then they
wrote a few more songs. Then they practiced those
songs, and wrote another song or two. Eventually,
the year was 2003, and they were ready for action.
They played their first show on January 18th,2003
with Destroyed Tradition at the Mix in Sanford,
NC, armed with 7 songs,6 members, 3 horns, and 1
sax player that cant really sing. After a couple
shows, Jimmy quit the band. After Jimmys leave,
CUandthePGs took up the guitar skill of Luke Ray,
The rest is history… or it will be once it happens… because,
you know, tomorrow isn't history yet… but when it
is, WATCH YOUR BACK, BECAUSE CUandthePGs WILL BE
WAITING FOR YOU!!!!!!! |
