Artist History
The year is 2001. Two students at a major metropolitan university in New York City meet by chance while performing on the campus' main stage, and begin infrequent jam sessions that continue throughout the rest of the semester. A tape is made to document the sessions which contain the first versions of fan favorites "Dv8" and "Rumblebee". Excited by the dynamic, original sound captured on the tape, and moved by the raw potential of the rough song sketches, the guitar and percussion duo decide to move forward and begin searching for a bass player to further develop the sound. Friend and classmate T. James hears the tape, and, impressed by Sebastian's innovative, vibrant guitar work and the originality of Daved's drumming, offers to join the band and make it a trio. Seven Caged Tigers is born.
The trio work feverishly and a second tape is made documenting the first appearances of "Mezzanine", "To Regret" and "Lavender" among others. Sebastian begins adding thrilling melodic vocal lines and strong emotionally charged lyrics, until finally the songs are ready and the time has come to test the material on a live audience. The band plays several shows at a local bar near the college campus and the response is overwhelming: Seven Caged Tigers are a hit. The band records a rough, live-performance tape of their original songs in Daved's basement and the "Seven Caged Tigers Basement Sampler" is converted to CD format and is re-dubbed "Seven Caged Tigers Live At Wilton Street". Based on audience feedback at shows and the advice of trusted friends who listen to "Live..." four of the songs are selected to be polished and re-recorded for the band's first official demo. Sound engineer Lottery Winner records and mixes the four songs and the limited press "Snarls and Stripes Forever EP" is packaged and distributed at shows.
The band had long desired to add a strong lead guitarist to the lineup, and after some searching, old friend Robby Dubya is asked to come and jam, and after just one session is welcomed into the fold. Dubya, a brilliant guitarist and ex-bandmate of Daved from his days in the seminal punk rock group Oreo Slayers, adds a new dimension to the songs and after some gigging with the new 4-man lineup, the band decides to finally go into a professional studio and record high-quality versions of their fans' favorite songs. The arduous process of recording begins in August of 2002, however due to Dubya's affiliation with the D.C. based rock outfit Spacecamp, the sessions drag on over the course of several months. During this time, Dubya takes an extended hiatus from Seven Caged Tigers, and an interim guitarist becomes necessary. Enter M2. Friend and schoolmate of Sebastian and Daved, M2 had supported the band from its earliest shows, and at one time had been offered a place in the group, though this offer had been declined due to scheduling concerns. However, the invitation is extended once more, and this time M2 accepts. The thrilling sounds and stylish proficiency brought to the table compliment the band's sound so well that several tracks from the recording sessions are erased to make room for the new guitar parts written by M2. At long last, in the late spring of 2003, the demo is completed and Dubya returns from his hiatus. The band, finally at full strength, plays several shows and begins writing new material and further refining their sound.
Present day. Seven Caged Tigers grow ever stronger; a tight unit with an extraordinary talent base, diverse musical influences, and a flair for exhilarating, dramatic live performances. The time has come, and with morale and fan support at an all-time high, the band begins planning a new assault on the music industry that will revolutionize music forever...
