Artist description Naked Mile is the by-product of the musical influences of four average American guys, but is distinctively non-average. Hailing from Chicago and calling themselves an alt-pop-rock band, Jasen Schrock, Chris Gorcik, Dusty Ward and Brian Abraham have taken what has come before, and added what is yet to come to create a unique, original brand of rock & roll - one that is as much based on innovation as it is on tradition. Originally conceived in the minds of singer Jasen Schrock and bassist Chris Gorcik, Naked Mile has become an amalgam of musical styles. Jasen’s R&B inflected voice conjures up images of Motown, Memphis blues and contemporary urban music, while Dusty Ward’s guitar playing hints at his North Carolina upbringing with shades of americana and bluegrass roots-music. Bassist Chris Gorcik’s harmonic and rhythmic sense along with his unfailing groove evoke an obvious affection for the jazz tradition, while drummer Brian Abraham’s adventurous playing suggests his love for drum’n’bass and the avant-garde. But what about the songs themselves? Musical ability and originality is nothing without an appropriate vehicle, that vehicle being the song itself, and Naked Mile is definitely not short in the songwriter category. All four band members are active songwriters, sometimes bringing their own work to the table, and sometimes collaborating with each other to further expand their own abilities. Naked Mile’s musical creed has been, and always will be, “the song is king.” This is the kind of music that attempts to reveal itself to you slowly over time. The hooks, while instantly memorable and irresistible, are just the tip of the iceberg. Once the song start to sink in, the intimacy and wit of the lyrics speak of universal stories and ideas, but told in a way that’s never quite been heard before, while the musical sophistication entices the ear too listen ever deeper into the intricacies of the arrangement and composition. This, at least, is what we hope to attain with the music that is Naked Mile.
