Artist History
Alexander Timofeev was born in Orhei, Rep. of Moldova, in 1983. In 2002 he graduated from C. Porumbescu musical lyceum with a degree in piano and composition. He studied piano with Professor Victor Levinzon and composition with Professor Zlata Tkach. At present he is studying piano with Professor Veda Zuponcic and composition with Dr. Harold Oliver at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
Between 1997 and 2003 Alexander won numerous competitions including
the 1997 PRO – PIANO Competition, the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition for Young Pianists in Bucharest, Romania. In September 2000 he won the first prize at the Sergey SLONIMSKY International Competition for pianists and composers in St.Petersburg, Russia. In the same year he won the Grand Prix at the Sixth Yuri SEMENEACO International Competition for pianists and composers in Grodno, Rep. Belarus. In 2001 he was the winner of Carl FILTSH International Competition at both categories – piano and composition. In 2002 he won the first place at the NJ MTNA competition.
He was part of the New Names program for talented young musicians in Moscow, Russia. Recipient of grants from the Pro Foundation, Bucharest, Romania, Brindusele Foundation and the Maria Cebotari Foundation in Kishenev, Moldova.
From 1998 until 2003 he performed with Iasi Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vlad Conta, the Radio-Television Orchestra of St.Petersburg, conducted by Stanislav Gorkovenko, and National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, conducted by Valentin Doni and Mihail Sechkin.

Hymn of Brindusele Sperantei Foundation for mixed chorus and orchestra, commissioned by the Brindusele Sperantei Foundation.
Music for solo piano: Cycle for piano, Preludes, Sonatina for piano, In memoriam F. Chopin - 6 valses in romantic style, Melodies of the forest for piano etc.
For violin and piano: 2 pieces inspired by Moldavian folk songs.
Music for Xylophone and piano commissioned by the Eugen Coca International Competition in Kishinev, Moldova.
String trio, string quartet.
For voice: Cycles on the Ivan Bunin and Iulian Filip poetry (with piano), two romances for soprano, piano and string orchestra.
