    Artist description
Ten Crimson Miles is a uniquely progressive indie-rock band from central Illinois, united in the idea that as people, we must create, and as musicians, we must endeavor to create music that connects our emotions with the listener in a very real and always innovative way. The group began, in its earliest form, when Henry Kappler and Aaron Ottis, long-time friends, began writing songs together in a dorm room at Millikin University, in the fall of 2002. Feeling good about the music they were creating, Henry and Aaron decided to start a band. Henry’s roommate at the time was Stuart Bernath, a talented pianist and singer/songwriter. Naturally, Henry and Aaron partnered up with him. The trio then found a drummer and a second guitarist that they knew from school, Charles Aldous and Cole Pesley, respectively, and started to play small concerts around campus, under the name StareStar. That’s when I first saw them. I’m Jeremy Pessin. I saw StareStar perform in the Lower RTUC on Millikin’s campus, and the band’s innovative music, poetic songwriting, passionate delivery, and severely genuine stage presence excited me. I made it a point to befriend the band members that night. I wanted to be a part of what this group was doing, in any way I could. At about that time, Charles developed a cruelly busy schedule. Seeing my chance to get involved, I convinced the other members of the band to let me take his place as their drummer. Charles was somewhat relieved at his loosened calendar. Similarly, not long after, Cole left to concentrate on other aspects of music. The band picked up another guitarist, a recent transfer student to Millikin, David Henson. With the changes in lineup, we all thought that a new name might be order. Together, we decided on the name Ten Crimson Miles, which was a representation and condensation of our musical influences and purpose. David Henson was an amazing songwriter, and he informed us that he probably wouldn’t be with us forever, because he was going to pursue his own songs in a different band. We were sad that David had to go, but we were really happy and excited for him a while later, once we heard his new band, The Infinity Room, because they’re incredible. In the meantime, he agreed to play with us until we had a demo. Feeling confident in our songs, we recorded our demo, Change, in merely eight hours at the town’s best-equipped studio, with Toby Schmidt as producer and engineer. Since that time, Ten Crimson Miles has been continuing to play concerts without regard for distance, going out of our way to express ourselves to audiences with passion and imagination.
