Riverblind is a one-man project dedicated to exploring just how strange a guy with a few axes, a good amp, a broken one, and a distortion pedal can get and still recognize the end product as remotely metal. Maybe it aint real good, but it's sure as hell real weird. |

Artist History
Riverblind started out under the name Grimlock (name changed for the purpose of getting on this site) in Brunswick, Maine, in the fall of 2000. A demo was recorded in six crazy hours of extreme lo-fi neo-black, neo-gothic, metal guitar and bass blasting overnight in the WBOR prod studio, onto mini-disc without benefit of a working amplifier or a recording technician. This was "Vexilla regis prodeunt infernii", which ended up not getting distributed because the sound quality sucked eggs. The title is from Dante's Inferno (the inspiration for all songs on the demo), and means "the banners of the king of hell advance".
Shortly thereafter Kai wrote a bunch of new songs and practiced them a little, then got some more time in the studio over February and March 2001 to record the second demo, "Tendrils of Burnt Flesh Ensnare the Feeble-Willed". This time, the sound quality was a little better, as Kai knew what the hell he was doing with regard to getting the recording gear set up. However, this demo was only played over the radio, and not distibuted, because the tape-recording gear at the station went on the fritz and Kai didn't have any minidisc capability on his own.
Other creative projects took over for the rest of the year, so it wasn't until July of 2002 that Kai was able to get some time off and set up to record the Tenebral Presence single. This was recorded in direct digital in Kuroi Kenshi Studios, and was actually distributed on CD-R in an extremely limited release.
Currently Kai is planning to record some more material for an as-yet untitled demo sometime in spring or early summer 2003, but this is tentative as ever. |
