Artist History
In July 2000, a group of Montreal musicians came together and formed Dibondoko, a band whose Douala name roughly translates as"a festive gathering of people". The quintet consists of Ramon Cespedes on lead vocals, Dylan Kell-Kirkman on bass, Alex Boisse on Drums, Cécile Doo-Kingué & Jordan Lerner-Ellis alternating on lead and rhythm guitars.
Dibondoko thrives on throwing a party: bringing all kinds of music and people together, creating a good vibe and having a good time. The music is as diverse as its members: funk, hip-hop, samba, soul, different African styles, zouk, reggae, pop- all get thrown into the mix. Everything has a common thread - it's all groove music.
The band has quickly established itself on the Montreal scene, raising the roof at Le Swimming, Quartier Latin, Sofa Bar, Karina's, Brutopia and Jello Bar, among others. They were a crowd favourite at the 2001 & 2002 Montreal Fringe Festival, voted Hard Rock Café band of the year in 2001, and coined noise-makers of 2003 by the Montreal Mirror.
Dibondoko is presently recording a full-length album while continuing to play as much as possible to as many people as possible. More than anything, they are a live act who love playing for people for the exchange of energy and the feeling that they are sharing a good vibe with their audience. Montreal is a very vibrant and multicultural place, and Dibondoko's music reflects that. Each member brings a different flavour to the music, assimilating all musical influences to produce a unique sound that will get you on the dance floor - whether you like it or not! |
