Artist description
Erica Wylie is an 18-year-old singer/songwriter born and bred in Manhattan. She started writing music seriously during her freshman year in high school and by the time she entered college, her early demos had attracted the attention of Spike Recording producer/engineer Matt Chiaravalle. Matt asked Erica to record some additional tracks that he then sent to Artemis Records. Impressed with the burgeoning talent, Artemis will release a six track EP recorded in the summer of 2002. “Stoop” will be in-stores March 24, 2003. With musical influences ranging from The Rolling Stones, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Pixies, The Clash and Spoon, Erica’s solid songwriting and catchy choruses can be felt throughout her debut EP.
“All of the songs,” says Erica, “both lyics and music were written at the same time over the last several years.” This six song cycle explores similar threads involving the elation and disappointments of relationships with society and friends. From the hook of “What's Unseen," about “having to get up every morning and face the same bullshit of a school that you know doesn't want you there,” to "Seventh" which was “originally a punk song that I wrote during Freshman year and refers to seventh grade when I fell for one of my friends and it turned into a disaster,” Erica shows the insight to flesh out situations and the maturity to comment on her surroundings in a way that anyone of any age can relate to…
