Press Reviews
The LabRats launched their superb double CD ‘Combat Wombat’ with the panache one’s come to expect at the Ace Morning bar, Brunswick. LabRats are a travelling renegade solar-powered sound system and wind powered cinema. For years now they have travelled the world making appearances at forest blockades, squatted social centres and street parties bringing funky electronic hip hop packaged information and inspiration.
After countless lo-fi d.i.y. releases and freestyling shows Combat Wombat is their first ‘official’ independent release (on vinyl too!).
It’s a musical journey telling the stories of Indigenous resistance, desert anti-nuclear actions and rat bag armies uprising against the evil forces of multinational greed. Tunes such as ‘Miraculous Activist’ – which features in SKA TV’s Global Insights – have been getting high rotation on Brisbane’s 4ZZZ Radio. Last week Mcs Izzy and Elf Transporter with a back beat provided by DJ Monkey Marc jumped around with a packed audience on their national launch tour. They now plan to get their vegie oil truck back on the road to take their sounds far and wide……
